Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Dr Farooq Sattar and three others suffered injuries when their speeding car met with an accident on Karachi-Hyderabad highway near Nooriabad area late on Sunday night.

According to details, Sattar, who was on his way back to Karachi from Hyderabad after attending political meetings, received injuries to his back and left shoulder. He was immediately ferried to AO Clinic in Nazimabad area of Karachi where a panel of doctors was constituted for his medical treatment.

Despite his internal injuries, Sattar himself walked into the clinic’s emergency ward. Besides family of Sattar, a large number of MQM leaders and workers reached the AO Clinic to inquire about his health.

The accident occurred when Sattar’s speeding bullet-proof vehicle reportedly hit a barrier erected on Karachi-Hyderabad highway – which is undergoing carpeting and repairs – and turtled after a sharp turn.

“He is conscious. He has injured himself on the back and shoulders, MQM leader Khawaja Izharul Hassan told media channels after the mishap.

The other three persons who suffered serious injuries in the road accident were the police guards who were sitting in the back portion of the double-cabin vehicle. The wounded police officials were shifted to another vehicle and rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Talking to media outside the clinic for a few seconds, Sattar said it was a miracle that he was still alive after the accident.

Earlier in the day, Sattar addressed MQM leaders and workers in Hyderabad. He said that people should stop viewing those with suspicion who built Pakistan.

He said that he wanted a Pakistan where boons of democracy also trickled down to the common man.

“The biggest tragedy is not accepting those who chant ‘Pakistan Zindabad’,” he said, adding that they “want to become an ‘equal’ Pakistani.”

He said that only those could understand the plight of general public who have been through the same problems.

Sattar said that at this time on Eidul Azha the party would not collect animal hides, although it would participate in cleaning up the city.

He said that the measure to distance the party from London leadership was carried out to maintain harmony and discipline.
