Lahore to celebrate Eid amid tight security

Lahore police have made security plan for the Eid congregations being held in the provincial capital and more than 6,000 policemen including officers will be deputed for the security of citizens. Eid-ul-Azha is being celebrated today and 3,300 congregations will be held to offer the Eid prayer at open places, mosques and Imambargahs in Lahore. As many as 2,325 mosques and 255 open places have been declared sensitive in the city.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Dr Haider Ashraf instructed all the divisional Superintendents of Police (SPs), circle officers and Station House Officers (SHOs) to remain vigilant in their respective areas during the Eid days.

He said that rigorous combing and search operations will be carried out in all the divisions for security purposes. “Every person will be allowed to enter the mosque after passing through a three-tier security arrangement of walk-through gates, metal detectors and barbed wires,” he said. Moreover, Lahore Police have also decided to depute police officials at major parks and graveyards of the city as a large number of people visit these places on the eve of Eid.

The parking slots will be established at a distance of 100 yard from the Eid congregations to ensure the security, DIG operation said and added that the continuous patrolling of police will be ensured in the surroundings of Eid congregations. There would be well-trained snipers on the important rooftops at the surroundings of Eid congregations and officials of intelligence agencies would also be deployed in civil clothes. The cops of Dolphin Force, Police Response Unit (PRU), Elite Force and Mujahid Force will also remain vigilant during three days of Eid. It is also pertinent to mention here that Rangers will be on high alert to avoid any untoward incident in the metropolitan during Eid holidays.

Furthermore, the traffic police have also made its plan to ensure the smooth flow of traffic in the city during Eid days. As many as 2,855 traffic wardens would perform their duties under the supervision of 2 SPs, 12 DSPs, 100 inspectors and 290 patrolling officers. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Tayyab Hafeez Cheema directed all the traffic wardens to keep eyes on all the vehicles in order to identify the suspected elements.

The Lahore police in collaboration with the traffic police will launch crackdown against the one-wheelers in the city during Eid holidays. The crackdown against the one-wheelers was imposed on the eve of last Eid-ul-Fitr and it was highly applauded by the citizens.
