Safe City Project to improve traffic: CTO

Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Tayyab Hafeez Cheema said that Safe City Project will not only take the security to next level but will also help stop the violation of traffic rules and regulation.

He was speaking at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Thursday.

LCCI Vice President Nasir Saeed presided over the meeting convened by the LCCI Standing Committee on Internal Trade Affairs. Convener of the committee Mujahid Maqsood Butt, Mian Abdul Razzaq, Zahid Maqsood Butt, Khamis Saeed Butt and Abdul Razzaq Bubber also spoke on the occasion.

The CTO said Punjab Safe City Project is being launched in Lahore in October. He said that 24-hour monitoring will be conducted through control and command centre. He said this project will bring Lahore at par with the big cities of the developed world.

Cheema said the Traffic Police is committed to resolve the issues being faced by the business community. He said that traffic police officials will conduct weekly visits to the city markets. He informed the participants that City Traffic Police is putting in its best efforts to keep the vehicular traffic on the move. It is providing necessary assistance to the government in the removal of encroachments which are the biggest hurdle in the flow of traffic.

The LCCI vice president said that Punjab Safe City Project is laudable initiative of the Punjab government to ensure security of the masses. He said that the LCCI will provide maximum help to the Punjab government in the larger interests of the economy.

He said that Lahore has attained the status of international business destination therefore it should look like the global capital.

He said that smooth flow of traffic is a must to cut cost of doing business and on time delivery of goods at their destinations. He said that keeping the flow of traffic is a big task but traffic police is managing it in a good manner. He said the role of traffic police is vital in the sense that a disciplined traffic flow gives a picture of whole society on the one hand while on the other hand it plays its role in economic turnaround by cutting transportation time of goods carriers. He said that liaison between police and the business community is a must and the LCCI is giving a special focus on this particular area.

Saeed said that violation of ban on protests and rallies on Mall Road is also causing massive traffic problems. He sought the chief traffic officer’s help in this regard.

In the end, the convener of the committee thanked the CTO and SSP Traffic for sparing time for the cause of bringing excellence in vehicular traffic in Lahore.
