The Foreign Office accused India of financing terrorism in Pakistan, saying that “open evidence is available on India’s involvement in subversive activities”.
The FO statement comes just days after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a veiled reference towards Pakistan at a recent G20 forum, said: “one single nation in South Asia is spreading agents of terror in countries of our region”.
FO Spokesman Nafees Zakaria, hitting back at Modi’s statement, said that “India is in the fact that single nation”.
The FO statement comes as Modi while addressing ASEAN member nations at a summit in Laos sought a coordinated response against the “export of terror”, Times of India reported.
“Export of terror, growing radicalisation and spread of extreme violence are common security threats to our societies,” he told the summit, in what is believed to be another apparent reference to Islamabad.
Zakaria said that the confessional statement made by arrested Indian Intelligence Agency Research and Analysis Wing officer Kalbhushan Jadhav had made it clear that which country was, in fact, spreading terrorism.
When asked if Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would raise the issue of Kalbhushan Jadhav at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly session, the FO spokesman said: “the issue of Indian involvement would definitely be highlighted”.
“The issue will be raised because of its direct links with incidents of terrorism in Pakistan,” he said.
