At least three people including woman and a child were killed when an oil tanker caught fire on Super Highway near Karachi’s DHA City, setting several other cars in its vicinity ablaze.
According to the motorway police officials, the dead included a man, a woman and a child. Bodies of all three are charred beyond recognition.
Four other people sustained burns and were shifted to nearby hospital.
A trawler carrying 15 cars crashed into the tanker, police said. The collision set the trawler on fire as well.
Rescue sources said the oil tanker, en route to Hyderabad from Karachi, turned turtle after a tyre burst, causing a huge pileup. The tanker caught fire later on.
Two people, travelling in the car which smashed with the oil tanker, burnt to death as fire engulfed the nearby vehicles.
The fire resulted in the massive traffic jam on both sides of the Super Highway.
Only one fire brigade managed to reach the site but ran out of water shortly. The fire brigade was able to put out fire from some vehicles.
