Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrived in Chitral on Wednesday to review work on development projects launched by the government in the region.

Addressing a public meeting in Chitral on Wednesday, the PM announced construction of university in Chitral.

The prime minister will inspect under-construction Lowari Tunnel to be completed at a cost of over Rs 8 billion in March next year.

The tunnel will serve as an all-weather link between Chitral and rest of the country. Chitral remains disconnected during the winter season due to heavy snowfall on Lowari top.

After the completion of Lowari Tunnel, the distance between Peshawar and Chitral will be reduced to seven hours from the existing 14 hours.

PM Nawaz Sharif has said that he was happy that people of Chitral have now started to understand Urdu language.

He said that he loves the people of Chitral with the core of his heart. He added that the city is just as important to him as Lahore and Karachi.

“When I visited Chitral last time, I was the prime minister and today I am still the premier. I will again be the PM in 2018 when I will visit the area,” he said.

The prime minister stated that Rs. 27 billion is being spent on the construction of Lowari Tunnel. He added that many universities will also be made in the area.

He added a hospital based on 250 beds will also be constructed in Chitral and a transmission line will also be spread in the area.
