The National Assembly resumed its session on Tuesday with Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in the chair. The House is transacting private members’ business.
Dr Fouzia Hameed presented a bill ‘The Federal Public Service Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2016’. The chair referred the bill to the standing committee concerned.
The House adopted a resolution recommending the government to take steps to set up separate counter for women in NADRA and passport offices of Charsadda. It was moved by Maulana Muhammad Gohar Shah.
Speaking on the resolution, Parliamentary Secretary for Interior Maryam Aurangzeb told the House that a passport office has recently been established in Charsadda where female staff will be deployed during this month. She pointed out that female staff at NADRA office in Charsadda is already working.
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmad said that it is the need of the time that all the constitutional institutions and political forces should come on one platform to take the country forward and protect the future of the coming generations.
Replying to points raised by different members, he said the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is working to steer the country out of crisis. He said it is the vision of the prime minister to provide employment to the youth, shelter to the poor, education opportunities for all and better medical health facilities for the people.
Sheikh Aftab said the present government is highlighting the Kashmir issue on all the international forums. He pointed out that delegations are being sent to various countries for this purpose. He said law and order situation has improved in the country to a great extent as a result of operation against terrorism.
The minister paid glowing tributes to the martyrs of 1965 war and the martyrs of war against terrorism. The parliamentarians paid rich tributes to the Shuhada on the occasion Defence Day of Pakistan who sacrificed their lives for the defence of motherland. The House was adjourned due to lack of quorum to meet again today (Wednesday) at 10:30 AM.
Five reports of cabinet standing committee presented:
As many as five reports of cabinet’s standing committee were presented in the National Assembly on Tuesday including compulsory blood test for relatives of Thalassemia patients.
The reports were moved by Parveen Masood Bhatti and Marriyum Auragnzeb on behalf of Standing Committee Chairman Rana Muhammad Hayat Khan.
Other reports included, the bill further to amend the civil servants Act 1973 (LXXI of 1973) [The civil servants (amendment) bill, 2014], the bill to provide for constitution of a National Commission for the education of ministry and matters connected there with or incidental thereto [The National Commission for Minority Education bill, 2015], the bill to make civic education a compulsory subject in the schools relating to fundamental rights and obligations of citizens [The Islamabad Compulsory Civic Education Bill 2015] also presented in the house, and the bill further to amend the Service Tribunals Act 1973 (No. LXX of 1973) [the service tribunals (Amendment) bill 2016].
