Top Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Jahangir Tareen has said the party will not be going to Raiwind for vandalism, but for a peaceful protest in front of the prime minister’s residence.
“The purpose of our anti-government movement is to keep the public aware of corruption committed by our rulers,” Tareen said while talking to a private news channel on Sunday.
He said that the issue of Panama Papers was still alive and had not been forgotten.
About PTI chief Imran Khan’s allegations against the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) chairman, Tareen said the PTI had strong evidence to support their claim, adding that the information had been shared by a credible person privy to the matter.
“If a probe is launched against the FBR chief, we can provide evidence at any competent forum” he went on to add.
The PTI leader said the FBR was politically targeting him due to his close association with Imran Khan and the PTI. He also said he would share all the details with the FBR as he had already declared ownership of an offshore company for business purposes on the advice of his lawyers.
Earlier on Saturday, Imran Khan, while addressing an accountability rally in Lahore, accused National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman of money laundering.
He alleged the PML-N was destroying the institutions to avoid accountability. “I warn the monarchy of Sharifs that our protest is peaceful, so they better not provoke us,” he maintained.
The PTI chairman feared that if the PML-N managed to avoid accountability in Panama Papers issue, “they will also rig the next election with this looted money”.
PML-N’s Mushahidullah meanwhile said the prime minister would not reply to the four questions posed by Imran Khan during the Lahore rally. “We are not bound to respond to the queries put forth by a person who himself is corrupt,” Mushahidullah said, adding that “we will only respond to the Supreme Court when asked to”.
He lashed out at PTI’s leadership for introducing new trends of protests by marching towards the residences of leaders, and added that PML-N too had “trained workers who know self defence”.
In response to PPP’s call for a show of strength after mid-September, Mushahidullah said the PPP lacked street power for the purpose.
