Can we expect some happy endings?
Where many want Mann Mayal to end already, today’s episode will end the curiosity of some who want to know if Salahuddin lives or not. Dil Lagi fans, however, need to wait till Saturday and everyone will know what happens to the saintly Mohid
With only one last episode left, the viewers of both the popular drama serials – Mann Mayal and Dil Lagi – are curious if the heroes will die or not.
Pakistani dramas are popular for projecting a true picture and culture of our society but the irony is that they hardly have any happy endings. Either the hero dies, as we saw in popular serial ‘Pyarey Afzal’ and ‘Muhabbat Subh Ka Sitara Hai’, or the heroine leaves the country for good.
However, the drama serials ‘Mann Mayal’ and ‘Dil Lagi’ respectively revolve around the love stories of main characters Minahil aka Mannu (Maya Ali), Salahuddin (Hamza Ali Abbasi) of ‘Mann Mayal’ and Anmol (Mehwish Hayat) and Mohid (Humayun Saeed) of ‘Dil Lagi’.
In recent episode of Mann Mayal, the viewers saw that Salahuddin undergoes a cardiac surgery after he deliberately drinks poisonous juice served by his jealous ex-fiancé Jeena (Aisha Khan). The juice was in reality made to be served to Mannu.
On the other hand, in drama serial Dil Lagi, protagonist Mohid gets shot just when he gets things right with his wife, Anmol.
The people who kept watching Mann Mayal despite the long stretched episodes surely do not want their favourite Salahuddin to die in the end. Many hardcore fans took to social media the case of Salahuddin drinking the poisonous juice because his death became obvious and inevitable, which has become a cliché in most of Pakistani serials.
Similarly, saintly Mohid is in ICU and fighting for his life with only a slight chance of being able to survive.
Why portray such angelic men when they have to die eventually? If any of the hero dies in both of these serials, it is going to be very disappointing for the fans again. Mannu, however, will remain an exception as all her miseries would finally be over if she dies. Nonetheless, it is not necessary that depressing stories always end on a depressing note, we can expect anything from our directors.
Unfortunately, Pakistani dramas in the past have shown a trend of the heroes dying towards the end. This is probably because our dramas lack a touch of Bollywood where everyone gets justice and there is a happy ending or we as a society are too passive to handle something good, be it in dramas or movies. Our directors need to understand that when there is already too much frustration in society, there is nothing wrong in giving people a positive imagination.
Where many want Mann Mayal to end already, today’s episode will end the curiosity of some who want to know if Salahuddin lives or not. Dil Lagi fans, however, need to wait till Saturday and everyone will know what happens to the old school and virtuous Mohid.
Let’s just hope that none of the heroes die this time and these two serials make an exception. But the norm is that TV directors love to destroy the true essence of dramas by killing the lead characters. Dramas are meant to entertain and promote positivity; people already have enough miseries in their lives to handle them in dramas as well. Some lighter and happier elements in dramas can definitely switch the mood of the audiences and this is what we want from these dramas this time around.
Fingers crossed to see if people finally get to see some happy endings or they end up in disappointment again because of their favourite characters’ deaths.
