Hunger strike for Dr Aafia’s release enters fifth day

There is no concept on upholding the honour of the nation and country if we fail to uphold the honour of our daughters, said Pasban-e-Pakistan leader Rafique Ahmed Khaskheli, addressing the workers on the fifth consecutive day of their hunger strike in front of the Hyderabad Press Club on Monday.

Pasban started a hunger strike till the release of noted Pakistani woman scientist Dr Aafia Siddiqui, presently languishing in a US prison.

He said that the rulers should realise that defending the honour of innocent daughter was also necessary to defend the nation. He said the nations who are not vigilant to defend the honour of their women also fail to safeguard the country.

On the occasion, Saleem Cheema, Arshad Arain, Manzoor Ahmed Khan, Sultan Khaskheli, Shahzad Chishti, Ghulam Jeelani, Anwar Salawat and other Pasban leaders were present.

He said that today when the nation is celebrating Defence Day, we pay rich tribute to our brave army who had heroically defended the nation and country. He said our brave armed forces are the symbol of our respect and dignity.

He said that the imprisonment of Dr Aafia is a trial of our rulers. They have failed to respect the feelings and aspirations of the nation regarding the daughter of the nation. He said that the national defence is not fulfilled until complete participation of the people is ensured. He asked the rulers to honour their pledge about the release of Dr Aafia.

He praised the spirit of the Pasban workers for their hunger strike till the release of Dr Aafia. He warned the rulers to play their due role in early release of Aafia or otherwise, the movement for her release may take some other turn.
