Punjab police have created a database of criminals in the province and the provincial capital Lahore. The database shows the presence of 55,000 criminals in Lahore while the number for the province is over 225,000.

Punjab, the most populated province, has set up a database of terrorists, robbers, thieves, proclaimed offenders, drug peddlers and those involved in sectarian violence.

In a meeting chaired by the Punjab Police Inspector General, officers declared that fingerprints of over 100,000 criminals have been added to the system and work is being done to include the remaining criminals into the database.

The database not only includes the fingerprints of criminals, but details about hair colour and skin colour as well.

The Punjab police department is also looking to purchase a fingerprint matching system which will cost Rs 45 million.
