The Lahore High Court on Wednesday issued notices to Punjab chief secretary and others on a petition questioning appointment of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Director General Dr Javed Iqbal.
Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah issued notices on a petition filed by one Zubair Niazi after hearing brief arguments.
Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel Shiraz Zaka submitted that the appointment of Dr Javed Iqbal had been made in violation of service rules.
He argued that as per service rules, the appointment of DG EPA could be made through promotion or Punjab Public Service commission.
However, Iqbal has been working as a technical advisor in housing department and he was transferred to EPA which was a violation of rules, he contended.
Zaka also raised questions on the non-functioning of eight EPA regional laboratories.
The chief justice, after recording initial arguments, issued notices and sought a reply from respondents.
