After the ban of Happy Bhag Jayegi, the Bollywood adaptation of Pakistani bestseller Karachi, You’re Killing Me! has made a change in the script to base the movie in Mumbai instead of Karachi.
Sonakshi Sinha, who was set to play the role of a journalist based in Karachi, in Noor will now be playing a journalist in Mumbai.
During an interview with DNA Sonakshi said, “What we have done is, we have taken the core character from the book. Sunil wanted to set Noor in Mumbai and that added further realism to the tale. Of course, the convenience of location helped, too. We are now just one last schedule away from wrapping up the film.”
“Noor is based on Pakistani author Saba Imtiaz’s novel Karachi, You’re Killing Me!. The light-hearted book tells the escapades of a young Karachi-based journalist Ayesha Khan. Sonakshi Sinha is reprising this character for the screen. While she is called Noor in the film, the setting has changed from Karachi to Mumbai. It is an entirely different demographic that Noor is dealing with now,” DNA reports a source as saying.
The source continues, “The book did have some mild shock value as it spoke about booze, one-night stands and Page 3 anecdotes set in Karachi, which could just as easily be set up in Mumbai as well. It was a no-brainer for director Sunhil Sippy and producer Vikram Malhotra to move on from Karachi to Mumbai.”
Speculations have surfaced that the reason for the last minute change may be due to the ban of Happy Bhag Jayegi in Pakistan.
Noor is slated to release on April 7, 2017.
