Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Tuesday termed the Supreme Court’s ruling on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan’s petition over Panama Leaks “another blow to the legitimacy of the judiciary”.

“A blow to the legitimacy of the judiciary,” Bilawal said in a post on his Twitter account referring to the court’s order on the PTI petition seeking disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The PPP chief also asked whether the reaction would have been the same had an identical petition been filed against a PPP prime minister.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Supreme Court Registrar returned the petition filed by the PTI to probe the Panama Leaks and disqualify Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for allegedly lying in the National Assembly regarding his assets.

The apex court’s order said the petition “prima facie appears to be a frivolous petition within the contemplation of… the Supreme Court Rules”, and that the petitioner directly invoked “extraordinary jurisdiction of the Supreme Court under Article 184(3)” which it said was not permissible.
