A protest was held by the parents of students in front of Premier American School (PAS) Harbanspura Canal Road on Tuesday against the exorbitant fees of private schools. The protesters urged the government to take steps in order to regulate the schools.

According to details, hundreds of parents gathered in front of school and raised the slogans against the school management. The protesters said that the school management is charging massive fee despite the clear instructions of the government that no school can increase fee without parents’ consent.

Waheed, father of a student, told Pakistan Today that the school management is asking a hefty amount to issue the O-Level result of his daughter. “An important academic year of my daughter is at stake as the management is reluctant to issue her result and are demanding a hefty amount unlawfully”, Waheed said. He has also submitted an application in the Harbanspura police station against the school management.

Sikandar Baig, another protester told Pakistan Today that the school management is pressurising the parents to ensure the enrolment of their children in A-Level despite the fact that there is no faculty for A-Level in the school. “The school management is charging thousands of rupees illegally in different heads of fee and government must take some action in this regard”, he commented.

However, Usman, the project director of PAS said that some parents are blackmailing the school management. The protesters can go to court if the school management has committed an illegal action, he added.
