MQM MPA sent to prison in anti-state case

The administrative judge of an anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday sent Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) MPA Sheraz Waheed to prison on judicial remand for allegedly distributing compact discs (CDs) containing anti-state speeches that may incite people for war against Pakistan. The police produced the MPA before the judge after the expiry of his earlier remand and requested the extension in his physical remand. The investigating officer (IO) requested the judge to extend remand of the MPA in police custody as he was further required for interrogation to trace out the whereabouts of his 15 accomplices. However, the judge rejected the police’s request and sent the suspect to jail on judicial remand till 10th September and directed the investigators to submit investigation report on the next hearing.According to the police, MPA Waheed was arrested for distributing some CDs containing anti-Pakistan substance that incites people for war against the country. They also claimed to have recovered 32 CDs which were to be distributed among others to provoke them for anti-state activities. The police submitted that 15 suspects including Danish Saeed, Naeem Shamshad, Syed Azhar, Nabeel, Shoaib alias Mamma and Zubair alias Kala were still absconding. The case was registered under sections 120-B (punishment of criminal conspiracy), 121 (waging or attempting to wage war or abetting waging of war against Pakistan), 123-A (condemnation of the creation of the State, and advocacy of abolition of its sovereignty) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.“Besides treason charges, the MPA confessed to his involvement in many murder cases registered in Korangi, Zaman Town, Landhi and Ibrahim Haidery police stations of the city,” the investigators claimed.
