The officials of the federal ministry of human rights and Sindh government’s functionaries discussed preparation of a provincial strategy to protect human rights in line with the action plan formulated earlier this year.
The meeting was organised in collaboration with Strengthening Participatory Organisation (SPO) at a hotel the other day.
The meeting discussed the action plan announced by the federal government in February this year to protect and promote human rights in the country. Director General Human Rights Department of the Ministry of Human Rights, Muhammad Arshad, briefed the meeting that there were six basic points in the action plan which elaborate 60 actions to protect human rights.
Arshad briefed about the role of provinces in protecting human rights. He urged the provincial institutions to ensure promotion of human rights in their routine works. On the occasion, Provincial Secretary Law and Human Rights Parkash Lal appreciated the action plan and assured the ministry of all out cooperation for the implementation of the plan.
Parkash Lal told the meeting in detail about laws introduced in the province for promoting human rights. He also gave proposals for implementing the action plan at the provincial level.
DIG Prisons Hyderabad Muzaffar Siddiqui, Additional Secretary Culture Department Bakhsh Ali Mehr, SSP Crime Branch Tariq Mughal, Special Secretary Home Department Abdul Wahab Memon, Director Information Roshan Tabbasum, Director Social Department, and other senior officials attended the meeting.
