The women workers of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) were presented in a local court and later handed over to police on 4-day physical remand in a case pertaining to August 22 attack on media houses in Karachi.
The workers that were arrested yesterday were MQM Women Wing in-charge Rabia, her daughter Qurat-ul-Ain, who is also MQM’s Councillor of City Council in Karachi, and Sumaira Bibi, party’s Burns Road sector member.
Members of the party were arrested over vandalism and assault on news channel offices on August 22 following an anti-Pakistan speech by London-based party Chief Altaf Hussain.
Those who have been apprehended are: Caught on a CCTV video, all of the accused were arrested in different raids Friday evening.
Police officials told the court that the women were involved in the attack the news channel, adding that two cases have been registered against them.
However, the MQM women denied all charges, saying that “we are Pakistanis and can’t even think of chanting anti-Pakistan slogan.”
After hearing the argument, the judge handed them over to police on four-day physical remand.
On Monday, scores of MQM supporters, including women, barged into the office of news channels and torched a police mobile and two motorcycles.
During violent clash, an MQM worker had also been killed while dozens of others were wounded following a provoked speech of party Chief Altaf Hussain at an MQM hunger strike camp outside a Karachi Press Club.
The police claimed to have arrested 42 suspects including 39 male and three women including senior leaders Kanwar Naveed Jamil, Shahid Pasha and Qamar Mansoor.
