Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) Convener Nadeem Nusrat has said that his party and its chief have nothing to do with the threats being issued to Dr Amir Liaquat Hussain.

According to a statement on MQM’s website, Nadeem Nusrat expressed concerned over the alleged death threats received by former MQM leader Dr Amir Liaquat Hussain. He said that based on threatening phone calls from anonymous numbers, it was unfair to blame MQM Chief Altaf Hussain for being behind such an incident.

He condemned the threats being given to Amir Liaquat and demanded the federal and provincial governments provide security to the former party leader.

Amir Liaquat Hussain has claimed that he is receiving death threats through SMS and phone calls after leaving MQM and announced that if he is killed, MQM London and Altaf Hussain will be responsible.

He had requested the MQM’s Khawaja Izharul Hassan not to call him an “MQM martyr” after his death as his “life and death are only for Pakistan”.

He had disassociated himself with the party on Tuesday evening after what he described as “failure to defend anti-Pakistan statements”.
