MQM MPA sent on remand for distributing anti-state CDs

The administrative judge of Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Friday handed over Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) MPA Sheraz Waheed to police for allegedly distributing CDs containing anti-state speeches that may incite people to violence against the country.

The police produced the MPA before the judge and informed that he was arrested for distributing the CDs containing anti-Pakistan provocative substance. The police also claimed to have recovered 32 CDs which were to be distributed among others to provoke them for anti-state activities.

The Investigating Officer (IO) requested the judge to remand the suspect in police custody as the MPA was required for interrogation to trace out the whereabouts of his accomplices which include Danish Saeed, Naeem Shamshad and others.

While accepting the police’s request, the judge allowed the investigators to keep Waheed with them on physical remand till August 29.

While being shifted to the police station, Waheed chanted slogans of Pakistan Zindabad several times.

MPA Waheed was arrested on Thursday and the case was lodged under sections 120-B (punishment of criminal conspiracy), 121(waging or attempting to wage war or abetting waging of war against Pakistan), 123-A (condemnation of the creation of the State, and advocacy of abolition of its sovereignty) and 34(common intention) of Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.
