The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday warned Provincial Chief Secretary Muhammad Siddique Memon for recalling the orders of his interim bail if he does not appear in the next hearing of the corruption case.
The provincial chief secretary is currently on interim bail to avoid his possible arrest as the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is investigating into charges of corruption against him and others.
Memon had obtained bail before arrest in August last year from the SHC, submitting that he had nothing to do with any corruption or embezzlement. He was served a call-up notice by the NAB relating to illegal regularisation and allotment of six acres land in Scheme 33, Karachi.
The top bureaucrat of the province had informed the court that he had never misused his powers as the chief secretary and neither allotted nor regularised the said land. The SHC had granted him an interim bail against the surety bonds of Rs 500,000.
During Thursday’s hearing, the SHC bench expressed its displeasure as Memon did not appear before it. The court directed him to make sure his presence in the next hearing or else his interim bail will be cancelled.
