Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Waseem Akhtar has been elected as Karachi’s new mayor on Wednesday.
While talking to media persons, the newly elected mayor said that Karachi’s mandate has been accepted today.
“Would May 12 issue be solved by arresting me? if the government has guts, they should try Musharraf under Article 6 for May 12 incident,” Waseem said.
He demanded of the Sindh chief minister to give powers to the local government representatives. He said that we need cooperation from police and Rangers.
“We are the children of those who created this country,” Waseem said.
He further said that the philosophy of public service will continue.
“I am Karachi’s mayor not of MQM. Forget the past, we’ll move on. If we work together, the issues of Karachi can be solved. Karachi’s progress is equivalent to Pakistan’s progress,” the mayor added.
Arshad Vohra was seen talking over phone during the press conference.
“Don’t take bhai’s name, be careful,” he whispered to Waseem after the call.
