In order to improve the efficiency of autonomous medical institutes, the Punjab government has enhanced administrative and financial powers of autonomous medical institutions, their heads and medical superintendents in the province. According to details, while complete powers have been given to Board of Management of autonomous hospitals and specialised institutions, principals, head of institutions and medical superintendents have been empowered in a number of administrative and financial matters. All this is a welcome step on the part of government but we need to understand that in order to improve the service delivery more needs to be done. Therefore, the government must evolve an efficient healthcare system by removing flaws in its delivery system. Only words will not do anything until they are followed by actions.
