Smart card to replace registration book for vehicles: minister

Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation Mukehs Kumar Chawala has said that smart card is being introduced in place of registration book for vehicles. It will not only be easy to carry it but will also convenient to Excise and Taxation Department to maintain the data of vehicles and their owners.

He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting in his office. He said that introduction of smart card would eradicate the menace of fake registration books because these fake books were a big threat to law and order.

He added to facilitate the owners of the vehicles, registration offices will be established on Khalid Bin Waleed Road, and Toyota show Room officers will be assigned there that will make the process simple and reduce the corruption as well.

Chawala said that it would also reduce burden at Civic Centre. Physical verification and inspection of the vehicles would be done at these registration offices.

He said that the purpose of these steps was to facilitate the people and added that in current scenario, it is a must to keep proper data of the vehicles and their owners to minimise the danger of terrorism. The minister directed the officers to work hard and not show any negligence otherwise strict departmental action would be taken against them.
