SHC seeks comments of Rangers, police in missing persons’ cases

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed Sindh Rangers director general and the inspector general of police to file their respective comments on the petitions seeking whereabouts of five missing persons.

The SHC bench, headed by Justice Irfan Saadat, was hearing the petitions filed for the recovery of Hafiz Usama, Muhammad Kamran, Zafar Khan, Zameer Khan and Muhammad Mairaj Khan who were allegedly detained by the law enforcers from different parts of the city.

The identical petitions were filed by Mst Uzma Khan, Junaid Usman and Muhammad Ali and the relatives of the missing persons, who cited the DG Rangers, IGP and home secretary as respondents, praying the court to direct the respondents to produce the detainees before the court.

The petitioners submitted that their relatives were in the custody of law enforcers but they were not disclosing it. According to the petitioners, their relatives were picked up by the law enforcers from different areas of the city but neither their arrests were shown nor they were produced before any court. After hearing the petitions, the court issued notices to the deputy attorney general, advocate general and respondents to file their comments in the next hearing.
