Projects to generate 20,000 MW in the works

Board of Investment Chairman Dr Miftah Ismail said on Friday that 20,000 MW of electricity will be generated after completion of the various power generation projects in the country.

Talking to Radio Pakistan he said the Karachi plant and the Sahiwal coal project will be completed in 2017 while coal project in Thar will get completed in 2018.

He said three wind power projects are also being established in Sindh and two more coal mining plants are being worked on in Thar.

“All these projects will help overcome the energy crisis,” he added.

He further said that the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is also a mega project and it will not only benefit Balochistan but will also prove beneficial for the country’s other provinces. He said it would also be beneficial for other countries in the region.

“CPEC will have long lasting impact on Pakistan as the youth needs jobs and this project will usher in a new era of employment opportunities,” he said.
