Top-tier leadership says PPP won’t reconcile with govt on corruption as Chandio vows they won’t become part of movement against democracy either
The top leadership of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) said on Friday that there will be no reconciliation with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government on the issue of corruption.
In a meeting in London, PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari held a detailed discussion on the political situation of the country in the wake of the Panama Papers scandal.
But the statement did not indicate a radical shift in policy, which was evident from the statement of the Sindh government’s Adviser on Information Moula Bux Chandio who said the PPP will not become a part of any political movement which ends democratic dispensation from the country.
The adviser expressed these views while talking to media at the residence of a PPP leader Irfan Gul Magsi on Friday.
The Sindh Minister for Food Nisar Ahmed Khuhro was also present on the occasion.
The statement of the top-tier leadership came after a meeting which discussed references filed against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Election Commission of Pakistan. The PPP leadership said it had decided to take the issue of Panama Leaks to its logical conclusion.
Chandio, meanwhile, said that although he respects the Pakistan Awami Tehreek’s Chief Tahirul Qadri, he does not support Qadri’s way of politics.
He said they feel pride in the leadership of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and dispelled the perception that the PPP had lost its popularity.
“Some failed politicians make such comments against the PPP,” he said.
Provincial Minister Khuhro said the PPP never believed in the politics of revenge and as such no political opponent had been targeted during its current tenure.
Senator Aajiz Dhamra, MNA Nafeesa Shah and Rashid Rabbani, among other PPP leaders, were present on the occasion.
Many local leaders of Muttahida Qaumi Movement, PTI, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional, Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz and Sindh Taraqi Pasand announced their decisions to join the PPP on the occasion.
