The Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) nominated Karachi mayor, Waseem Akhtar, said on Saturday that the party had not staged hunger-strike for him.
Talking to media before hearing of Dr Asim Hussain’s case, Waseem Akhtar vowed that he will resolve the issues of Karachi after becoming the mayor.
He said that the chief minister was also keen to stand with the people in every difficult situation. He also suggested the reporters to talk to the MQM’s Rabitta Committee about the hunger-strike. He also expressed satisfaction over the judiciary and hoped for the best.
Akhtar said that only relatives and lawyers come to meet him while no one from the government has visited the jail to listen to his stance. Moreover, the MQM leader said he would apply for bail after consulting his lawyers.
Earlier, an anti-terrorism court had sent Waseem Akhtar to jail on physical remand in the terror facilitation case. The court had also issued a notice on two separate bail applications, shifting the matter to ATC-I.
Waseem Akhtar was arrested along with MQM’s Rauf Siddiqui, Pak Sarzameen Party’s Anis Qaimkhani and PPP’s Abdul Qadir Patel on July 19 after the ATC rejected their pre-arrest bail applications.
The accused are facing charges of allegedly asking Dr Asim Hussian, a former petroleum minister and ex-president Asif Zardari’s close aide, to provide treatment and shelter to alleged terrorists and gangsters at the North Nazimabad and Clifton branches of Ziauddin Hospital, owned by him.
