Momal Sheikh’s Bollywood debut features her as Zoya, Abhay Deol as Bilal Ahmed, Diana Penty as Happy, Jimmy Shergill as Daman Singh Bagga and Ali Fazal as Guddu.  Happy Bhag Jayegi is a story of a girl named Happy who accidentally ends up in Pakistan.

While this cross-border romantic comedy faced last-minute obstacles in Pakistan, it opened up to mixed reviews in India.

Critics say that while the film is funny on a superficial level, the characters do not reach their full potential, especially the character of Happy played by Diana. The film’s writing is limited and lacks depth.

Critics complained that often times the film seemed to be about Bilal and Zoya instead of Happy and Guddu.

Happy Bhag Jayegi has many of the cliché aspects of comic romps, such as a runaway bride and a snubbed suitor. However, Mudassar Aziz fails to make use of the narrative pieces available to him consistently enough to be able to make a true comic masterpiece.

Happy Bhag Jayegi whips up a steady rhythm in the first half only to lose its way a bit in the second. It isn’t the kind of film that will have audiences rolling in the aisles. But it might occasionally induce faint smiles on some faces.

Meanwhile in Pakistan, Happy Bhag Jayegi is barred from releasing today because the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) could not reach a unanimous decision over the fate of the film due to technical differences between the board members.
