After the intervention of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, the Karachi police have released six workers of the MQM arrested from Gulistan-i-Jauhar, says a handout.
Murad Ali Shah taking notice of the hunger-strike being observed by the MQM workers at Karachi Press Club directed the IGP to release the MQM workers if they were declared innocent after the investigation. “I do not intervene into the police affairs but would never allow you [the police] to detain innocent people,” he said while talking to IGP AD Khawaja on telephone.
He said his policy was very clear to make the police stations public friendly. There should not be unnecessary harassment of any citizen but “in my government nobody would be allowed to support criminals,” he said categorically.
The IG told the chief minister that some MQM workers had been arrested from Gulistan-i-Jauhar Sector who were included in investigation of a case. The chief minister directed him to release them if they were clean in the investigation. Latter, the IG informed the chief minister that the police had release the six MQM workers.
The chief minister also talked to leader of opposition in the Sindh Assembly, Khawaja Izharul Hassan, and apprised him about his instructions to the IG police. “We are political people and do not believe in political victimisation,” he said, and added “We have never intervened in political activities of any political party.”
Those who have been released include Syed Arshad Ali, son of Syed Intikhab Ali, Mohammad Adeel, son of Shamsheer Ali, Syed Taleh Ali, son of Syed Azhar Ali, Waqas Ahmed, son of Nasar Ahmed, Gulam Murtaza, son of Ghulam Nabi Qadri and Zishan Bashir, son of Bashir Ahmed. The chief minister hoped that the MQM workers would end their hunger strike because their demand had been fulfilled.
