Court allows deportation of US national Matthew Barett

Matthew Barret, the US national who was arrested for entering the country on a blacklist, is just moments away from freedom as a court has allowed authorities to deport him.

The court in Rawalpindi ordered for his deportation on the plea of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). Barett was placed on a blacklist after being arrested a few years ago near Fatehjang for suspicious activities and deported from the country.

However, he managed to secure a visa from the Pakistan consulate in Houston, and also evaded immigration authorities at the airport. The visa issuing officer Saeeda Altaf Qazi has subsequently recorded her statement to an investigation team.

He was subsequently arrested by the FIA after which Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan ordered an inquiry. Nisar said that Barett was not a spy and was not charged with espionage. Therefore, it was decide to deport him as it would lead a likely diplomatic crisis.
