A local court has sent two key suspects in Samia Shahid honour killing case in police’s custody on physical remand for five days. The two suspects, Late Samia’s father along with her ex-husband Shakeel were presented before the court. Three other accused in the case, two women and a cousin of the late victim have not been arrested until filing of this report. Sources told that the accused women have fled the country.

Samia, a British-Pakistani beautician by profession, was murdered after she came to Pakistan to visit her family in Jhelum last month. She made the visit from Dubai after she was told her father was ill while her husband, Syed Mukhtar Kazam stayed back. Reportedly, the family resented her second marriage with Kazam with whom she was staying with in Dubai for past one year.

After she was murdered in Pakistan, her husband was told over a telephone call that she had a fatal cardiac arrest. Interior Ministry took notice of the incident and ordered immediate arrest of those involved. Police nominated late Samia’s ex-husband Shakeel and her father in the case that was lodged in Jhelum. Syed Mukhtar Kazam flew to Pakistan after learning about the news and accused the family of her murder. According to him, family of her late wife never came to terms with her second marriage with him. He stressed that she was murdered by her family.
