The Rawalpindi civil judge and judicial magistrate refused to deport US citizen Matthew Barrett for not producing original copy of a notification issued by Interior Ministry, adjourning hearing of the case by Thursday (today).
The court ordered the police to produce the relevant record along with an original copy of the notification today.
Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Investigation Officer (IO) Inspector Rana Akram on Wednesday appeared before the court regarding deportation of US citizen and sought permission to deport Barrett while quoting the Interior Ministry’s notification.
On this, the court has sought original copy of the notification as the IO informed the court that Interior Ministry had issued a notification but it did not provide the original copy of the notification.
The court asked what kind of an IO are you that you appear before the court without record, adding how the court can release order on mere verbal references.
Barrett was deported from Pakistan in 2011 on his alleged involvement in anti-Pakistan activities and connection with Blackwater but the accused reached at Benazir Bhutto International Airport after changing his appearance and name through Turkish Airlines on August 3 and succeeded to expel from the premises of the airport.
Later, the accused was arrested by the law enforcement agencies after conducting a raid in a local hotel of Islamabad and was handed over to FIA for further investigation.
A case had been registered against Matthew under 14 Foreign Act and the local court had sent him to jail on judicial remand.
