PM asks WAPDA to expedite building of water reservoirs

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Tuesday (today) directed Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) to expedite the building of water reservoirs across the country, for increased electricity generation and flood control.

The prime minister in a meeting with WAPDA Chairman Zafar Mahmood at the PM House directed him to fast-track work on development projects and further explore the potential of huge hydropower generation.

Nawaz Sharif said WAPDA needed to work efficiently for the development of water and hydropower resources in the country.

“We are aiming to produce cheap and affordable electricity and also address the issue of water shortage, particularly in view of averting acute water challenges in coming times,” he said.

The prime minister said a generation of affordable and clean electricity would not only provide relief to the consumers, but the building of water storage would also enable the country to fulfil its water requirements.

The chairman apprised the prime minister about the progress of various ongoing hydropower projects in the country.
