Election for the new president of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) would be held on Tuesday (August 16). Two candidates will contest the scheduled election to the apex office of the president of Azad Jammu Kashmir for the next stipulated five year constitutional term.
The nomination papers of Kashmir-origin Muhammad Masood Khan, a retired diplomat and former permanent representative of Pakistan in the United Nations, and Chudary Latif Akber, a former AJK minister in outgoing AJK government, were accepted.
The stipulated constitutional term of the incumbent AJK President Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan ends on August 24.
Polling for the election to the AJK president’s office would be held on August 16 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Lodging Hall of AJK Legislative Assembly in Muzaffarabad, according to the schedule announced by the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission.
Members of both houses of the AJK Parliament including AJK Legislative Assembly (the lower house) and the elected members of the AJK Council (Lower House) will elect the new President of AJK State.
