Cooperation of public vital for prosperous and vibrant society: IGP Islamabad

Islamabad Inspector General Police (IGP) Tariq Masood Yaseen has said that in order to transform a prosperous and vibrant civilised society, the citizens are needed to come forward and contribute in getting poverty reduced and sufferings of poor, needy people and neglected segment of society minimised.

He stated this while addressing on the occasion of 20th Centennial Installation ceremony of first ever female District Governor of Lions Club International (LCI) Sitara Satwat and her cabinet held on Sunday. A large number of Lion delegates from all over Pakistan, prominent social and human rights activists, members of civil society and persons with disabilities were present on the occasion.

Yaseen said that the teaching of our religion and great prophet (PBUH) also directs us to serve the humanity without any discrimination of religion, caste, creed, colour, gender and region.

The renowned drama artist, host and director Saania Saeed emphasised that the persons with disabilities should not be sidelined and ignored; rather they should have the equal opportunities to earn for their livelihood. “We need to have a proactive national action plan to engage persons with disabilities in the socio-economic development,” she suggested.

Former member to the board of CDA and Centennial Installation Co-Chairperson Syed Mustafain Kazmi said that we should create opportunities for the voiceless and marginalised communities so that they could be able to earn for survival of their family’s livelihood in an appropriate manner. As far as persons with disabilities are concerned, their right to life, livelihood and shelter shall be ensured and protected, he maintained. Everyone should support the efforts for the mainstreaming of persons with disabilities and marginalised communities, he added.

While addressing the gathering the district governor Satwat said that they are united for humanity and they wish to incorporate the passion for serving the humanity in order to lead the way through network of promotion of human values, affection, fraternity, and perform par excellence to see the world flourishing. “Since we are in the era of the centennial year of lionisim, therefore, we have to be ready for ‘Marching Together’ to face many challenges. This year is a unique year in the lions’ history, as we are completing our last year of the lion’s century which is a great honour and a unique opportunity for us.”

On the occasion, IGP Islamabad, Saania Saeed, ex-MNA Palwashay Khan, Sitara Satwat and former member board of CDA and Installation Chairperson Syed Mustafain Kazmi distributed the wheelchairs amongst the physically challenged persons.
