After the completion of multi-storey parking lots in Jinnah Super Market, Sector F-7, the parking dilemma faced by commuters and shoppers has been greatly reduced. Now, Capital Development Authority (CDA) has its eyes set on restoring, renovating and refurbishing F-6 Markaz, locally referred to as Super Market.
One of oldest markets of Islamabad, Super Market, is frequented mostly by elites living in sectors F-7, F-6, G-6, F-8, F-10, E-7 and other upscale localities of the capital. It is estimated that CDA will spend an amount of Rs 50 million on modernisation and makeover of F-6 Markaz during the year 2016-17. One of the main problems faced by visitors is the lack of availability of parking space. The ever-increasing number of cars has an inverse relation with parking slots. Since its inception, Jinnah Super has had the same capacity for car parking. In addition to expanding parking space, basic amenities and work on footpaths and pavements will also be initiated in the coming days.
Back in Musharraf’s era, CDA Chairman Kamran Lashari took it upon himself to ‘beautify’ Islamabad. Libraries and gyms were made in many sectors, Peer-Sohawa and Damn-e-Koh were rebuilt, Pakistan Monument was constructed from scratch and many other feats were undertaken and completed. It seems that CDA and MCI are taking their cue from the former chairman and the work he did during his tenure.
Recently CDA made it in the news for cancelling the lease of Grand Hyatt Hotel, for shutting down Safa Gold Mall and a power struggle between IMC and CDA. Islamabad Mayor Sheikh Ansar Aziz has recently won his first battle when prime minister intervened and instructed CDA to hand over three major parks of Islamabad namely: Lake View Park, F-9 Fatima Jinnah Park and Marghazar Zoo to MCI.
