Azadi Train will resume its country-wide journey on Monday after a two-day stay at the Rawalpindi Station.
The train will leave at 9:15am for Gujjar Khan, the next stop on its down-country run. The train will also stay at Jhelum, Lalamusa, Mandi Bahuddin and Malakwal.
It had arrived at the Rawalpindi station on Saturday midnight from Peshawar after making stops at Attock and Nowshera stations, en route showing glimpses of the culture of four provinces along with FATA, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, besides creating awareness among the people, especially youth, about efforts and sacrifices rendered by the forefathers for the creation of Pakistan.
Thousands of people, including families, from the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi and suburban areas in large number, visited the Azadi Train since its arrival at the Rawalpindi station.
They took a keen interest in the picture galleries and floats depicting the culture of the provinces including GB and AJK.
They appreciated the Pakistan Railways’ officials and artists for decorating such a beautiful train and arousing the spirit and sentiments among the people about Pakistan.
Families, in great number, were among the visitors. Children and grown-ups, both girls and boys, were seen taking selfies on their cell phones with the heroes of Pakistan Movement and armed forces, who had sacrificed their lives for the country’s defence.Fayaz Khan, who was roaming in the Azadi Train coaches along with his family, said it was a beautiful gift for the nation on the occasion of Independence Day, as it created awareness about the struggle for an independent country, besides armed forces’ sacrifices.
According to Azadi Train In-charge Sajid Bashir Raja, the rush of people visiting the train showed their keen interest to know about the country’s history and culture.
It may be mentioned here that the Azadi Train has three different parts consisting of six floats, six galleries and six operational vehicles. The floats display the cultural traditions of four provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan and AJK.
