After winning gold in the 4x200m freestyle relay at the 2016 Olympics, USA swimmer Ryan Lochte has since been held up at gunpoint in Rio.
The terrifying ordeal occurred after he was reportedly invited to a party by Brazilian swimmer, Thiago Pereira, which came after the end of the swimming schedule on Saturday night.
However, Fox Sports have now revealed that the American athlete is safe and well, whilst his mother has described the incident as ‘terrifying’.
As for the reaction from the Olympic organisers, Rio spokesperson Mario Andrada has addressed this latest situation, although has failed to confirm whether Lochte was actually threatened with a gun.
“We just had a quick report that there was an issue with Lochte but we didn’t have the detail that he was held at gunpoint,” said Andrada to the press. “We are waiting for more information.
