Knife attacker terrorising Rawalpindi women finally caught

Terrorising knife attacker only targeting women in Rawalpindi was finally caught by Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of police Thursday night.

The arrest came a day after police released sketch of the suspect.

According to CTD officials, the suspect, Muhammad Ali, was taking shelter at a relative’s house in Morgah, one of the areas he has been targeting, and is currently under investigation.

The arrest came after Irum, a nurse and one of his victims, stepped forward and provided details of his appearance to the police enabling them to reach out to the locals for his identification.

Police claim the suspect is in fact the attacker as his face resembles with the sketch.

The man had been targeting women in Morgah and Kotha Kalan localities of the garrison Rawalpindi city, using a sharp dagger attempting to kill or critically damage females on streets, severely crippling women from venturing out of their houses.

So far, a total of 15 to 19 incidents have been reported, with three women killed and the rest injured, police said.

 

The motive of heinous attacks is yet to be ascertained; however police officials suggest the suspect is mentally unstable.
