While the threat of agitation looms over the Panama Leaks from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and other smaller parties, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has successfully won the support of former president and Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) Chief Asif Ali Zardari.

PTI has already announced to launch a countrywide awareness campaign over the allegations made in the Panama Papers against the family of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Some smaller parties have also announced to support the street agitation planned by PTI Chief Imran Khan.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also welcomed the PTI’s campaign which many have pushed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to strike a deal with Asif Zardari.

A well placed source told Pakistan Today that Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar had recently held a long meeting with Asif Ali Zardari and all the outstanding matters have been sorted out.

The source said that Zardari had decided to resolve all the issues with the PML-N leadership after he concluded that the army leadership was reluctant to deliver goods to him.

“Despite supporting army on several issues, the PPPP president has realised that the army’s top leadership was reluctant to be lenient towards him on cases against him and his close comrades. Hence, he decided to strike a deal with the federal government,” the source added.

The source said the meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere.

“The meeting, which was held through intermediaries, was very successful and the PPPP chief has assured that his party will not partner with the PTI or any other party against the government. Rather, the PPP will raise its own voice in the parliament,” the source added.

The source added that the meeting lasted for six hours and all the matters were dilated upon in depth.

“The meeting was started with intermediaries meeting Zardari. This meeting lasted for three hours. Later, Ishaq Dar joined the meeting. Dar’s interaction with Zardari also lasted for another three hours with several intervals,” the source said.

During the long meeting, Senator Dar consulted with the top party leadership on a number of issues.

“Dar has assured Asif Zardari that the government will be lenient in cases like Dr Asim Hussain’s and Ayan Ali’s. In return, Zardari has assured the finance minister of PPP’s cooperation,” the source added.

Information Minister Senator Pervaiz Rashid was not available for comment.
