Security has been increased in Pakistan along the border with India after a warning of a possible attack by the Taliban at the border crossings was issued.
The Counter Terrorism Department in Punjab has alerted the chief secretary that Taliban were planning to target the Wagah or Ganda Singh border between August 13 and 15, The Indian Express reported on Wednesday.
According to reports, two suicide bombers had been tasked by the fugitive chief of Afghan Taliban, Mullah Fazlullah, to attack the Independence Day parade at the border points. “Extreme vigilance and heightened security measures are suggested to avoid any untoward incident,” the CTD said.
The steps are taken after an attack on a hospital in Quetta on Monday that killed at least 70 people, most of them lawyers, while over 100 others were injured.
In 2014, at least 55 people were killed and over 120 were injured when a suicide bomber struck the flag-lowering ceremony at the Wagah border.
