The administrator of city’s maweshi mandi (animals market), Jahangir Allah Rakha, has said that all the possible arrangements are in place for facilitation of traders and customers at maweshi mandi at Sohrab Goth, and this includes measures to avoid outside interference in the market’s affairs and provide exploitation-free environment to traders and customers.

In a statement issued to media on Saturday, he said facilities such as free parking for the customers, space and lighting arrangement for merchants and around two dozen free ramps for offloading of animals for the traders had been provided.

The administration of maweshi mandi is also focusing on quality of food and water available in mandi for the public and has ensured that mineral water of a top brand directly from the authorised distributor is available for sales in the mandi.

Booking of the VIP blocks has already started. The mandi has been set up at an estimated area of 700 acres.

Jahangir added that the administration is determined to avoid involvement of irrelevant and unwanted elements in the mandi, so that traders and customers have a complete sense of security of their belongings and money.

“In the past, there have been reports of reselling VIP plots to traders by some elements acting as middle men at far higher rates than the prices they had been booked at,” Allah Rakha said. “This time we are verifying the VIP plot buyers’ credentials thoroughly in addition to asking them for the proof of visual identification such as CNICs and pictures to ensure that the original buyer of the plot would not sell it to someone else to mint profit,” he added vowing to achieve the zero corruption target in this regard.

Arrangements have been made for swift entertaining of the traders and customers complaints. Strict action would be taken against those involved in any sort of blackmailing or exploitation, he said, while asking people to immediately contact the administration if they have any complaints against any mandi official or any other person. He also advised people to refuse payment of any money demanded by any irrelevant person except for the required charges.
