NAP implementation to be ensured by ‘monitoring task force’

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has chaired a meeting with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif, Intelligence Bureau Director General and others to review implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP).

During the meeting, the civil and military leaderships decided  to form a monitoring task force, ensuring the implementation of the National Action Plan in the country.

Moreover, report presented to the prime minister regarding implementation of National Action Plan states that eight out of 20 points were not implemented upon.

According to the report, law enforcement agencies and provincial governments could neither stop funding of terrorists nor were recommendations to conclude criminals cases in lesser time filed. It was revealed that extremist outfits started operating under different names.

Restoration of complete peace and tranquillity shall remain the top priority of the Government and all the state institutions, the meeting resolved.

DG ISI Lt-Gen Rizwan Akhtar, DGMO Major General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, DG MI Major General Nadeem Zaki Manj, PM’s National Security Adviser Lt-Gen (r) Nasser Janjua, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid and other top government and military officials attended the meeting.

It was the second meeting chaired by the Prime Minister in two days to review the security situation in the country and National Action Plan.

Earlier, a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to review implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) on Wednesday, concluded with the consensus that there was a need to improve the intelligence mechanism between the federation and provinces.

During the meeting, an in-depth discussion was held regarding the implementation of the National Action Plan.

The meeting concluded with the consensus that there was a need to ensure implementation of all 20 points of the NAP.

It was also discussed during the meeting that the intelligence mechanism between the federation and provinces should be strengthened to facilitate the flow of information.

The meeting also discussed steps that need to be taken to improve the process.

It was decided during the meeting that Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan would apprise the parliament regarding the decisions that had been taken during the NAP meeting.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had called the high-level meeting after a deadly suicide bomb attack at the Civil Hospital Quetta, which claimed lives of 72 people and injured scores of others.

Moreover, speaking in the National Assembly, the prime minister said such cowardly attacks could not weaken the nation’s resolve. He added that the government is committed to ensuring a prosperous and stable Pakistan, according to the vision of Quaid-e-Azam and all the political parties.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif  reiterated that the whole nation, the government and the security institutions were united to annihilate the scourge of terrorism, as the opposition demanded summoning the military leadership in the House to brief lawmakers on security measures being taken to safeguard citizens against terrorism.

The prime minister said the political and military leadership had vowed to ensure peace and tranquility in the country, besides implementing the National Action Plan (NAP).

The national and military leaderships have unanimously decided to launch the operation Zarb-e-Azb and NAP, he added .He said that today Pakistan is more secure and stable than in recent years.

The terrorist attacks, he said, had infused new vigour and added determination in the resolve to root out terrorism. Condemning the terrorist attacks and the ideology behind such inhuman acts, the prime minister said such dogmas of obnoxious minds in the past had snuffed out lives of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed, innocent people in Safoora Goth tragedy, Hazara community in Quetta, Peshawar church and innocent children of Army Public School. He said the enemy had targeted the notable and prominent personalities in the country, besides killing minorities.
