Flood inundates several villages, irrigated land in Jhang

Several villages and vast area of irrigated lands Thursday (today) were inundated by flood waters from River Chenab which disconnected ground link of more than 60 villages adjoining Jhang district.

More than 60 villages of Jhang district are under water which also includes several villages of Athara Hazari and Ahmed Pur Siyal.

Flood water from  River Chenab devastated standing crops and washed away many slum houses. The standing crops including sugar cane and vegetables have been destroyed due to flood water and affected farmers have been facing huge financial losses, the affectees said.

Incoming water flow at head Trimmu point in River Chenab is 1,45,325 cusec whereas the emission is 1,32,525 cusec.

The Flood Warning Centre has said that sharp peaks of very high flood in the river Chenab with 4,10,000 cusecs of water have passed through Khanki and Qadirabad barrages in district Gujranwala and entered districts Chiniot and Jhang on Monday afternoon. The maximum water flow in the river was 2,50,000 cusecs at Qadirabad barrage.

Punjab Emergency Service Rescue 1122 has established 18 flood relief camps across Jhang district to provide quick emergency services to the people affected by floods.
