Federal Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar submitted a written statement in the National Assembly on Wednesday, saying that the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) has initiated investigation into the Panama Leaks.

It was further added in Dar’s statement that the FBR is obtaining documentary evidence regarding investment made in offshore companies and revenue generated through these companies by Pakistani residents in the first phase of the investigation.

The results obtained will then be analysed and compared with FBR’s database and with the taxpayers’ record. It was stated that no action will be taken if the data matches the information regarding the assets provided to the FBR.

Ishaq Dar said that offshore companies were legal and could be financially beneficial within the legal framework, but added that they could also be used for illicit purposes.

  1. You can rest assure, FBR will find no evidence as far as his majesty the arch bishop of corruption is concerned. FBR is a recipient of the share of the loot, a faith lapdog of the government of the day.
