Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Monday presided over a meeting concerning the lack of cleanliness in Karachi and assailed government officials for not doing enough to keep the city clean.

According to the chief minister’s spokesperson, Murad arrived at the Sindh Secretariat before 8am. He met Additional IG Sanaullah, who briefed him on the prevalent law and order situation in the province. He then presided over a meeting concerning the dismal state of cleanliness in Karachi which was attended by Provincial Minister Jam Khan Shoro, the principal secretary and other officials.

Assailing the performance of government officials, Murad said that Sindh government was subjected to criticism due to lack of cleanliness in the province.

“It’s not only about criticism, I feel the pain of the citizens,” said the chief minister.

The chief minister was briefed by the South District Municipal Corporation regarding the situation of South Zone, according to the CM’s spokesperson. Murad was unimpressed by the briefings as he remarked.

“I don’t want idle talk, I want solutions,” he said, and added “I will not allow trash to be thrown in any grounds.”

He said police would be held responsible if garbage was thrown in the grounds.

CM Murad ordered officials to decide locations of garbage transfer by the day’s end and stated that he had been informed by DM Central that more than 250 dustbins had been ordered. He also issued directions to authorities to remove trash from the city’s Mai Kolachi road and II Chundrigar Road. He said in the first instance, red zone area must be cleared immediately.

He also gave orders to start cleanliness work on Korangi Road from today (Tuesday) and instructed DC Korangi to have all livestock removed from residential areas. Murad also pointed out that garbage was being thrown in Malir Nadi and Qayyumabad which must be stopped forthwith.
