Rao Anwar claims arrest of five MQM workers in May 12 incident case

SSP Malir Rao Anwar on Tuesday claimed to have arrested five Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) workers suspected of involvement in the May 12 incident and shifted them to an undisclosed location for further investigation.

He said the accused were arrested from Super Highway and SITE area during operation and weapons used in May 12 incident were recovered from their possession.

“The arrested suspects include Salman Rizvi, Nasir Zia and Abdul Ahad,” he said.

The May 12 tragedy was one of the grimmest incidents in the history of Karachi when on the arrival of then Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Chaudhry several people were killed in armed clashes between workers of different political parties.

The SSP Malir has termed the arrests a big breakthrough and said he would tomorrow apprise media about the accused in detail.

This should also be noted that a Joint Investigation Team report suspected to consist of revelations made by MQM nominated mayor for Karachi Waseem Akhter was leaked. The report was disdained by the MQM leader calling it a media trial against his party.

Rao Anwar and an investigation officer DSP Altaf Hussain had claimed that Waseem Akhter had during interrogation revealed names of the persons involved in May 12 incident.
