Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif chaired a high-level security meeting, following the bombing at Quetta Civil Hospital, and ordered the intelligence agencies to initiate special combing operations to target those involved in terror attacks, said a tweet by military’s spokesperson.

The army chief chaired the meeting, with the Balochistan chief minister, provincial chief secretary and commander Southern Command in attendance.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) quoted the army chief as saying that after their defeat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, terrorists are shifting their focus to Balochistan.

The attack is an attempt to undermine the improved security situation of Balochistan, and the effort is specially targeting the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), added ISPR.

All resources will be employed to control the situation, read another tweet.

General Raheel also visited the injured at Civil Hospital Quetta. Critically injured individuals were also shifted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH).

The ISPR added the injured are being evacuated to various hospitals across the country as need be.

Condolences were also offered by the army chief to Chief Justice Balochistan after the attack.

  1. It is just as well that after another carnage, and this time in Quetta, and while chairing the high-level security meeting, General Raheel Sharif ordered the intelligence agencies to initiate special combing operations to target those involved in terror attacks. The army chief was also right when he said that after their defeat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, terrorists are shifting their focus to Balochistan. After all, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is of special concern to the Indian government and together with international patronage, India has also been trying desperately to separate Balochistan from Pakistan.

However, what the army chief did not say was that a lot of terrorists fleeing from KP were also arriving and re-grouping in Karachi where they already have a substantial presence, which makes it much easier for the fresh arrivals to blend in.
Also, in Punjab no operations have been done in the style of KP or even Karachi, despite the fact that the headquarters of many terrorist outfits are based in Punjab,

I think it is also time to tell the law enforcers in Karachi to spare the MQM which does not even offer physical resisance, and to concentrate on those who pose the real threat, and even though somewhat bruised, have not yet been crippled and retain their capability to strike and kill at will, which capacity they demonstrate every now and then, and which incidents result in big huddles and high-sounding statements but not much else.
