Despite lack of country’s full support for taekwondo, 20-year-old Gilgit boy, Rehmat Jamal  has managed to win over fans with his brilliant sportsmanship in  just a few years. He has not only made his area proud but also the whole country by winning 3 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze medals. Also, just recently he won the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.  He has set high standards for a novice in the field by winning the China Junior interstate gold. He completed his early education from Public School Jutial, Gilgit and is currently doing electrical engineering from Preston University, Islamabad. Since his father is in the education field he has always encouraged him to balance his education and sports well simultaneously.

His taekwondo journey started very suddenly. The three-year-old Rehmat used to go to the club daily with his elder brother, Shoukat Jamal. It was there that his teacher Mohammad Mohtashim saw the spark in him and started training him ever since.  His teacher was right that he was a quick learner and just at the age of 10, he won a medal for his province which was something new for Gilgit Baltistan.

Rehmat faced great difficulties at such a young age to strike a balance between the sports and studies. He trains twice a day for two hours of physical training in  the morning and two hours of technical and fight training in the evening. The journey has not been easy for the young star. He has faced great criticism as well but still nothing could stop the courageous boy to chase his dream. Without a doubt hard work does pay off all it requires is some determination which Rehmat had immensely.  Hence, he has achieved a lot at just the age of 20.

He is considered ‘unbeatable’ in Gilgit-Baltistan. He has not only made his area proud but also the whole country by winning 3 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze medals. Also, just recently he won the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.  He has set high standards for a novice in the field by winning the China Junior interstate gold. Talking to Pakistan Today, he said, ‘My body has been injured numerous times but I do not let it affect me since I do not want to take any chance with my dream and continue working hard for it. ’

The rising star is full of positive vibes and hence his motto is that winners do not quit. Hence, he is working hard around the clock to prepare himself for the upcoming Olympics. Rehmat had a spark in his eyes while he said: “ Insh’ aa Allah I will lift the flag of Pakistan on the victory stand of Olympics.” He’s a young patriotic and a modest boy. He reiterated, “I would have not followed my dreams without the immense support of my parents, my teacher, Lieutenant Colonel Waseem, the President Pakistan Taekwondo Federation and his academy ( Karakorum Nasir Taekwondo Academy).”
